Salvage Specialty Coffee: Hang Out at Artamon’s Award-Winning Cafe

Along the busy Wilkes Avenue, which is a Japanese-oriented neighbourhood in Artarmon, is a cosy coffee house with a family and dog-friendly atmosphere.

Salvage Specialty Coffee is owned and managed by three blokes who have worked in various coffee chains before and they have decided to establish a specialty cafe using quality ingredients.

Aptly named because most of the furniture and fittings to build this cafe has been “salvaged,” and they also occasionally use “salvaged” ingredients like honey, this Artarmon coffee place serves seasonal house blends and a variety of brews from Ona. Their pastries and bread, on the other hand, are from Bread and Butter Project.

Salvage Specialty Coffee has been proudly named as one of Sydney’s best cafes in the Top Cafes Award for three years in a row (2015 to 2017). But the place is not just known for good coffee, as patrons also love their Salvage Famous Toastie and their outdoor seating.

A favourite hangout of the young, the old and the furry kind, Salvage Specialty Coffee is exploring some changes in the menu in the coming months. However, the old reliable meals will always be available for its loyal guests.

Salvage Specialty Coffee’s trading hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily but the store extends its time until 9:30 p.m. for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“Such a breath of fresh air from busy, impersonal Sydney cafes. They were busy but still took time to explain their coffees and even kindly improvised a substitution for me, due to a food allergy. Felt like I stepped back to my hometown of Kansas City, Mo where people are kind and everyone knows your name! Thank you Salvage Coffee for making this homesick girl, feel at home in Sydney. I WILL BE BACK!!”

“This cafe is great, straight away walking to the counter, the staff made me feel like I was one of their favourite repeat customers. They have Ona coffee, which is always a good sign, and I was not disappointed! It was a beautiful coffee, and I was very glad I found this place!”
